Privacy Policy

Hoops ("we", "our", or "us") is a basketball social app that helps players find courts, track games, and connect with other players. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how you can control it.

What we collect

• Account info — email address, username, and password (stored securely via Supabase Auth)
• Profile info — position, playstyle, experience level, avatar, and profile colours you choose
• Location data — your device location when you check in to a court or use the court map. Location is only used to show nearby courts and your check-in status. We do not store a history of your location.
• Game data — match results, MMR rating, session history, and challenge records
• Social data — your friends list and friend requests
• Push notification tokens — a device token used to send you push notifications

How we use it

• To provide the app's core features: courts, check-ins, matches, and social connections
• To calculate your MMR rating and player comparisons
• To send you push notifications (you control which types in Settings)
• To restore your account if you sign in on a new device

What we don't do

• We do not sell your data to third parties
• We do not use your data for advertising
• We do not share your data with any third party except as described below

Third-party services

• Supabase — database and authentication. Your data is stored on Supabase infrastructure. See supabase.com/privacy
• Apple APNs — used to deliver push notifications to your device
• OpenStreetMap / Leaflet — used to display the court map. No personal data is sent to OpenStreetMap

Data retention

Your data is stored for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, all personal data including your profile, match history, friends, and push tokens is permanently deleted. This cannot be undone.

Your rights

• Access — you can view your profile and match history within the app at any time
• Correction — you can edit your profile details in Settings
• Deletion — you can delete your account from Settings → Delete account
• Notification controls — you can toggle individual notification types in Settings

Children

Hoops is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with data, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes via the app. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the new policy.
